Update on contract and BLET pull-out of NS programs:
April 11, 2008
The BLET General Chairmen are scheduled to meet with Norfolk Southern next week. Will provide updates as they are made available. I've been told that Wallace has told the carrier what is needed to for an acceptable agreement and to resume participation in various NS programs, which are currently being boycotted. As to the BLET pull-out from safety meetings, stop signal meetings, safety banquets/cookouts, L.E.T. training, Operation Lifesaver, DSLE trips etc.: The reasons for this pull-out are based on numerous issues that affect every T&E employee, BLET and UTU alike. For that reason, please discourage your UTU brothers from continuing their participation in any NS program that is not required as a condition of employment.
We should be receiving information on another tentative agreement at the General Committee meeting, which is to be held on May 19, 2008 in Asheville, North Carolina. I will post any updates concerning an agreement as soon as possible.
