Attention AGS Engineers! How can some of you have the nerve to complain about NS violating your working agreement, when some of you are constantly violating that same contract? Quit taking advantage of a crew caller who doesn't have a clue about temporary vacancies. All you are doing is being deceitful with an attempt to screw a fellow employee for your benefit. Three problem areas are:

(1) CLAIMING A SECONDARY VACANCY:
(IT MUST BE VACATION RELATED. IT GOES 2 DEEP, NOT 3 OR MORE AND IT APPLIES ONLY TO VACATION RELATED VACANCIES.

THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN CLAIM A SECONDARY TEMPORARY  VACANCY IS WHEN THE FIRST ENGINEER IS OFF ON A SCHEDULED VACATION AND ANOTHER ENGINEER CLAIMS HIS/HER JOB. THAT IS WHERE IT STOPS. YOU CANNOT CLAIM THE THIRD VACATION RELATED VACANCY, UNTIL IT HAS BEEN OPEN FOR 6 DAYS. YOU CANNOT CLAIM A SECONDARY VACANCY WHEN AN ENGINEER CLAIMS A WORK TRAIN, TAKES A JOB THAT'S BEEN OPENED FOR 6 DAYS, TAKES PL DAYS OR SINGLE VACATION DAYS, CLAIMS A JOB BECAUSE THE REGULAR ENGINEER HAS BEEN OFF FOR SICKNESS, BEREAVEMENT, DISIPLINE OR ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN A REGULAR SCHEDULED VACATION.

 (2) DISPLACING AN ENGINEER FROM A TEMP VACANCY:  STOP YOUR ILLEGAL DISPACEMENTS, WHEN YOU LET A VACANCY SLIP BY. IF YOU'RE UNAVAILABLE WHEN A TEMPORARY VACANCY BECOMES CLAIMABLE (YOU ARE WORKING OR ON THE OFF BOARD), YOU MAY IMMEDIATELY DISPLACE A JUNIOR ENGEER, FROM A TEMPORARY VACANY, PRIOR TO YOUR NEXT CALL FOR ENGINEER SERVICE. YOU CANNOT DISPLACE A JUNIOR ENGINEER FROM A TEMPORARY VACANCY SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU OVER-LOOKED IT.

(3)
Extra board engineers called to work an outlying switcher are not entitled to 'time to place' after they are deadheaded home from that assignment. Once they put off duty at the home terminal, following the deadhead from that outlying assignment, that engineer is to take his/her place on the extra list, immediately. If a junior engineer claimed a temporary vacancy while you were protecting that out-of-town assignment, you may displace him/her prior to your next call for service. (03-29-09)
